SmartPalm Software
Version 1.6 (Site Operator's version) .exe file, 2.6MB.
Instructions
Download the file to your PC, then run SmartPalm.exe to unpack the installation files to a directory of your choice. Once the files have been extracted, run Setup.exe and follow the instructions.
Observation:
One thing I've found is that loading the SmartBar software on older Pocket PCs, such as a Jornada 540, will sometimes fail with an error message saying that there is insufficient memory. In each case I've managed to circumvent this by using the "Explore" option in ActiveSync to poke around the handheld's folders. It appears that the real problem is the time it takes to load the software and the system thinks the connection has timed out, but gives a spurious error...
ActiveSync
You will need this software to transfer files between your Pocket PC and PC. The link to the download page can change from time to time, so the best way to locate it is to go to www.microsoft.com and enter "activesync download" (without the quotes) in the search box.
Download the software and follow the instructions. At the time of writing (March 2005) the current version was 3.8. Let me know if you'd like me to write a tutorial on installing and using this software.
